The wait for the Friday the 13th television prequel is almost over. Crystal Lake premieres Thursday, October 15, exclusively on Peacock in the United States, with all eight episodes available at launch. Produced by Peacock and A24, the series is led by creator and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, who also worked on It: Welcome to Derry.

Rather than simply retelling Jason Voorhees' later killing sprees, the series turns toward the family's earlier tragedy. Linda Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees, Jason's mother, and Callum Vinson plays young Jason. Peacock describes the show as a new exploration of Pamela's grief and the events surrounding the notorious summer camp. It is a prequel built around the roots of the slasher mythology rather than a straightforward sequel to the films.

For horror fans, the appeal is the chance to revisit one of the genre's most recognizable locations while spending more time with a character who helped launch the franchise in 1980. The creative team has room to explore the camp, its community and Pamela's perspective in ways the original film could not. Whether the series delivers the tension and memorable scares longtime fans expect is something viewers can judge starting tomorrow. This synopsis contains no plot spoilers beyond Peacock's official description.
